If a temporary resident has lost their status or their approval to work or study in Canada has expired, they might be eligible to apply for a restoration of status.

Note that the candidate can only restore the approval they held prior to its expiery. For example, a student who lost their status can only apply to restore status with approval as a student and not as a worker.

Applicant requirements

The candidate must:

• Apply within 90 days of losing their status,
• Meet the initial requirements for their stay in Canada,
• Stay in Canada till a decision is made,
• Have not failed to satisfy any condition put by the regulation or an officer.
