Immigration governing Canadian laws prioritizes ensuring that the families are united. Hence, this Dependent Child class allows citizens of Canada or Permanent Residents (PR) to sponsor their dependent children, the children of their spouse/partner, or children that are adopted as long as they fulfill the government regulations. Further, they must prove to still be dependent on their parental sponsor.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

The person who wants to sponsor a dependent child in Canada must:

• Be either a Canadian Citizen or its Permanent Resident.
• Be ready to accept an agreement with the government that they want to undertake the sponsorship for 10-years, or until the age of 25, whichever comes first. However, if the dependent child is 19-years old or older at the time of PR, the sponsor is only responsible for 3-years after entering the country.
• Fulfill the minimum financial responsibilities needed by the Canadian government.
