A super visa is a visa that allows multiple visitor entries for the parents and grandparents of the Canadian citizens and its permanent residents. They can even stay in Canada for up to two years at a time without renewing their status.
In other words, a super visa allows eligible parents and grandparents to stay temporarily in Canada. To stay permanently, they must be sponsored for permanent residence by their child or grandchild living in Canada.
Super Visa vs Visitor Visa
A super visa is a type of Canadian visitor visa available to only the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or its permanent residents. The biggest difference between a super visa and a visitor visa is the period for which you can stay in Canada. While a visitor visa is valid for a stay of up to 6 months, a super visa allows a stay for up to two years at a time. Plus, in the case of a visitor visa, you need to apply to extend your visa for an extended stay beyond six months while there is no need to apply for an extension in the super visa.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
The person who wants to visit Canada on a parent or grandparent super visa must:
- Be invited by their relative who is either a Canadian citizen or its PR.
- Have enough financial capacity to support the guest(s) while in Canada.
- Have valid travel documents and show their ties with their home country.
- Show that they have the required Canadian Private Medical Coverage.
- Prove their clear criminal record and medically admissibility to Canada.
