The global talent stream (GTS) is part of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), a stream of work permits that welcome newcomers to Canada on a temporary work permit to fill in labour needs in Canada. It is mainly concentrated on highly-skilled individuals with experience is engineering and tech-related fields.
There are two categories under the Global Talent Stream.
Category A
Category A includes high-growing companies that can prove the need to hire unique specialized talent from overseas. A designated referral partner must refer the employers in this category to the Global Talent Stream.
Category B
Category B includes employers looking to hire highly-skilled foreign workers for the various occupations listed on the Global Talent Occupations List (GTOL). The list comprises all the in-demand occupations for which there is a shortage of domestic labour.
Work Permit Exemptions
The following two new categories of workers are now included in the work permit exemptions under the global talent stream.
Highly skilled foreign workers in skill type 0 or skill level A occupations of the NOC can work in Canada for a period of 15 days over 6 months, or 30 days over 12 months without a work permit.
