Important note: The parent/grandparent program reaches its capacity very instantly and the number of spots fluctuates. Since the program opens at the beginning of each year, you should decide whether you wish to apply or not. However, the Canadian government has provided a Super Visa as an alternative. This allows the families to travel freely and be with their children.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
The following are some requirements to sponsor your parents or grandparents in Canada.
- You must be at least 18-years old and a citizen of Canada or its permanent resident.
- You must fulfill or exceed the minimum necessary income (MNI) requirements for your family's sponsorship in Canada.
- You must sign an agreement stating that you commit to providing financial support to your sponsored parents or grandparents besides repaying any particular social assistance benefits paid to the sponsored family members for 20 years.
- An additional undertaking agreement must be signed if the sponsor lives in Quebec.
