What is a temporary resident visa (TRV)?
A visitor visa or otherwise called a temporary resident visa (TRV) is a piece of a legal document granted by the visa office to be attached to your passport. It implies that you have met the requirements to enter Canada as a temporary resident or visitor.

What is Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)?
If you're a visa-exempt foreign national travelling to Canada, you need an electronic travel authorization. As the name suggests, it is electronically attached to a traveller’s passport. It has a validity of up to five years or until the passport expires. For every new passport, a new ETA is required.
An ETA also allows touring Canada as often as you wish for short stays extending up to six months at a time. Note that an ETA isn't required for travel within Canada.
